3.PEDAL AND PADDLE - MULTIACTIVITY

Go to PUENTE HOME PAGE

Come discover the joys of peddling on the unpaved towpaths along an old barge canal in north-central Spain. Try your hand at easy paddling on the Canal or a nearby river.   Experience the change in perceptions when you switch between water and land. See the subtle charm of the breadbasket of north-central Spain, where the horizons are far, far away.

Early churches (including a cave-church and a Visigothic chapel) and castles dot the route, and the side routes will take you to even more. But the real star of the show is the 18-19th century barge canal, an engineering marvel in its day and still interesting today, even though it is now only used for irrigation.

If you want a Spanish multiactivity trip off the beaten track, this is your trip. Unexplicably undiscovered even by many Spaniards, this route has a wealth of cultural sights, including sharing a bit of the St. James pilgrimmage route, a great classic addition to this unusual trip.

Spain: Only 4-lock system on the Canal. The Road of St. James crosses the Canal at this point
