Carrera de la Ciencia / Science Race 37th edition! Event funded partly by research groups / organizations and partly by El País newspaper. Route is center and north-center city, using calle Serrano going south, Castellana going north up to Plaza Cuzco, connecting with Alberto Alcocer in the north. Manuel Escudero Memorial race: Race in Tres Cantos, a suburb north of Madrid. Route is mostly semi-urban along tree-lined boulevards or parks. Distance: 10 kilometers / about 6 miles. shorter distance kid races at 12 noon. Minimum age for longer race is 17 years old. Small inscription fee, less expensive for early signup. Looking ahead: Half Marathon in the University area, March 11, 2018. Route: seven kilometer loop in the university area, you decide the distance: one, two or three times around for seven, fourteen or twenty-one kilometer distance. This is about six weeks before Madrid’s Marathon so a good test run for anyone thinking of the bigger race. 100 kilometros en 24 horas. June. Yes, really! 12 noon on a Satuday to 12 noon on a Sunday. It can be done, and you don’t have to be an elite athletes – they run the thing. If you are doubtful: you can do the entire distance as a relay, do “only” 33 kilometers, or bike the entire 100 kms. In north part of Madrid province.

Vuelta Ciclista España. September. Professional bike ride all around the country, like the Tour de France, sometimes with the same ciclistas. Route is sometimes more challenging than French route, great to watch on TV, or find the route and go see it in person. Frequently ends in Madrid.
Madrid Bike Day: Usually early October, usually 20 kilometer loop from the Retiro park.
